Soft Sorrow

She was crying as she said hello,
but it was to be my only comfort
For there was so much heartbreak in all of her sobs
that I almost didn’t want her to love me

She told me she wished that we could skip to goodbye;
the place where she’s assured that my love still exists
So I’ve made it a point to tell her too often
how certain I am that she’s more to me than the hi denies

We were falling fast until circumstances broke us
The outcome is simple and sad for two
whose lives are back to being normal,
but whose hearts never will be
Both estranged, we’ll bleed the same
